Don't know what took me so long to register....Been reading advice from all of you for 2 weeks now, btw THANKS.

A newbie with a Green Mountain Grill, lived in KC for 2 years and fell in love with real BBQ.  BTW GO HAWKS!

Howdy from Oregon! Lots of great info here. Don't be afraid to ask questions, and the search bar here works great. Have fun and post up some smoke!

Good morning and welcome to the forum, from a nice, sunny and cool day here in East Texas. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about  everything.

Thank you for the warm welcome gentlemen! I will be posting smoke very soon and look forward to your advice. I've got my chicken game on lock and looking forward to step it up and start 'practice' on briskets.
Dirtsailor- I live in WA and need to ask you for tips on maintaining temp with the weather we live in. I was thinking of Fire retardant cardboard to drape over the grill or a welding blanket

Welcome to SMF!

I live in Granite Falls, WA - you can tell that because I filled out my profile...<hint hint>

When you decide on a smoker I might be able to help with info on how to keep the heat and smoke in - I have a Traeger, an MES 40, and a mobile stick burner.

Hope to see some Q-View of your cooks soon.  I'll be watching.

Well for your GMG a welders blanket would be the best option for you probably. A friend of mine here has the little GMG, he and his wife really like it so far. A good wind block is always good. Since I move my smokers around a bunch I typically use make shift plywood contraptions.

You can also just buy the thermal blankets made for the GMG.  Not as inexpensive as a welders blanket, but custom fitted and easy to install.

I use a GMG thermal blanket on my Traeger (when I bought it Traeger did not have one available yet) and it works pretty well.  GMGs and Traegers are pretty thin, so maintaining temps is always a bit of a crapshoot depending on wind and weather.

Thanks again for the info. I've had the GMG for about a month now and I do love it despite the built in thermometer but got the maverick now so not worried as much. I do like the GMG thermal you mentioned but before dropping the bucks I thought I'd ask about the welding blankets because I have access to several of them through my job. Thx again for the tips!

Glad you joined the group. The search bar at the top of any page is your best friend.
About anything you wanna know about smoking/grilling/curing/brining/cutting or slicing
and the list goes on has probably been posted. Remember to post a QVIEW of your smokes.
We are all smoke junkies here and we have to get our fix. If you have questions
Post it and you will probably get 10 replies with 11 different answers. That is
because their are so many different ways to make great Q...
Happy smoken.
