So for my rib cook for my guests this weekend, I'm trying to decide what wood to go with. I've been doing straight pecan the last couple of cooks. It's pretty good, but I can't help but wonder if there is something that would give it an extra wow factor as far as flavors go. Here are all the woods I have on hand. I'm curious to know what you all like to use, and how many chunks of each kind I should use. Thanks all.

Here is what I have on hand:

Apple
Cherry
Hickory
Oak
Pecan

Normally I use hickory, but I have been known to use maple or apple. It depends on my mood and what I have on hand.

I watch Malcom Reed videos all the time. He did one where he showed how to make competition style ribs. He used one chunk of hickory and one cherry. May try that route for something different.

I use hickory or oak on everything to. Sometimes I’ll mix in some peach or apple with them. Hickory is great for ribs!

Combination of a fruit wood and hickory. Right now I have plum wood I saved from my backyard, so I use that with hickory chips I have to import from somewhere it rains.

I love apple and hickory on my ribs. Did it the first time by accident used apple instead of the hickory then when i figured it out smoked the last half with hickory. So now i do a 50/50 mix and smoke.

My favorite is hickory followed by oak. I use mostly oak cause that’s what I can get for free. I also like oak with cherry.
