But have you ever lived in the snow for a winter?

I did 2 winters in Great Lakes IL.  Let me tell you........I was glad to be out of there.  Too cold.....too damn cold and of course it was cold as hell.

Have also been in my family's cabin in Lake Tahoe, Ca for winter time.  I did like how quiet it was and I could HEAR the snow falling....BUT i'll take a San Diego winter for living on a longer term basis :o)

Good luck and good smoking.

Hey John

Looks like you're ready for a long, cold winter. I gotta start getting ready too--it was -6C here this morning.

Gary
You better get ready, so you can sit in the snow again this year.

13 cords of red oak ready to go! I used 18 last winter but I'm heating a 3000 sq. ft. garage and the house and domestic hot water. Snow is in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow.
18 cords?!?!?!

That's a lot of wood----No wonder they call you "Woodcutter"!!!

Oh I am ready for WINTER!!!!   I am prepared for when those nights dip into the 40's  brrrrrrrrrr

Will have several barrel aged cocktails so I can hunker down

You don't have a Winter!!

You have a Warmter!!!

LOL---I should know----I spent a whole 2 hours in CA, in August of 1970----Waiting for a Military Standby Flight to Philly.

I am SO ready for winter!!! Today is a typical winter day here: 78 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. I'm stocked up on sunscreen and surf wax! I have enough fire wood for the two days a year I actually have to light my fireplace.

What's the highlight of winter? High school soccer season!!! My daughter's high school is looking to defend their state championship:

Let's do this...

LOL---I spent one Winter on Oahu, and it was the only time in my life I was at the beach on Christmas Day!!

Best of luck to your Daughter's HS soccer team!!

Yeah definitely need to be prepared for this winter. Looking to have a lot of snow with the way its been raining. Doesn't 1 inch of rain equate to 8 inches of snow? If it does its gonna be a rough one.
Something like that----Depends on how wet the snow is----Sometimes 1" equals 10" of snow.

Bear
Looks like that's the thing to do tomorrow. Going to go try to pick up 3 tons. Hopefully that's enough to get me through to spring.

Last year when it was below zero outside, I had to open windows to cool the house down...

Say what they will about being a ditry fuel, there's nothing else like anthracite heat!
Been around a lot of them----They sure do keep a house warm!!

Bear
We are not ready yet. Only have about 1/2 cord of wood. Going to get a bunch tomorrow. Have a buddy that has oak down on his property and has been for 2-3 years so it should be nice and dry. Will be splitting like a mad man to get it done.
Oak's Awesome for a wood fire!!

You'll be ready soon!!  Careful splitting!!!

76*???  In the Summer?? Too Hot !!!

There's the difference---I set my AC at 72* in Summer, and my Heat at 68* in Winter!!

76* never belongs in my house!!!  Don't believe in sweating inside my house!!!

My favorite thing about a PA Winter is you can walk through the woods without worrying about Rattlesnakes, Copperheads, and Spiders.

And you can shoot a deer without it spoiling in a few hours.

Bear

The secret is you have to get a shot at the deer. Archery season score so far:

Deer - 1
Tim - 0
They're only up by one!!!----You'll get the next one!!

My Son was going to get me a Doe for meat on Saturday, but when he drew back his peep sight tube broke & snapped (dried out & cracked), scaring the Doe away.

I told him it's good he wasn't drawing on another Trophy Buck!!!

I used to shoot in tourneys, and he's even better than I used to be, however he has better equipment, and I started him out when he was 5 years old.

Bear

I heard its supposed to be another bad winter! Hopefully your pellets hold out. Can't wait to get 4-5 mpg' while plowing!

We are really looking forward to winter since moving up here back in June!  It's been way to long since I've seen a real winter.  26 years in the Navy and being at sea level at every place I've been stationed really had us missing winter, let alone four real seasons.  The aspens are in full gold up here for about the last couple of weeks but are now starting to lose their leaves.  Had our first snow last week, only about an inch and was gone before noon but Pike's Peak has had snow off and on for the last month.

I've been cutting and splitting wood for the wood stove for the past few weeks.  Don't have a clue how much wood we'll need to get through to spring but I've got plenty of more wood to cut and split that should keep me busy until the snow gets to deep.

And I've already got me skis for the first time in many years and looking forward to skiing on real snow, not that man made stuff.
