Its free, ad supported. Which Mrs Okie and I have come to the conclusion of not minding ads, it gives us a chance to go to the kitchen, bathroom, or look into the internet.

We've pretty much decided to drop YouTube TV and go to this when football season ends. Its got everything she loves , i.e. Hallmark movies, NCIS, etc . And my only interest is football and college baseball, which I can get the baseball through ESPN+ .

And YouTube TV is going up to $83 a month. From that to free is a good savings.

I'm anxious to see Disney spin off ESPN into a stand alone streaming service, or what eventually becomes of the effort to combine the sports content of ESPN and Fox. Even it that gets priced at $40 per month, I'm still ahead of YouTube TV.

Pluto TV: The Rise of Free TV in the Streaming Age

Many streaming services are going the way of cable tv. Like cable companies did they are pressing the increases and will do so until the customer / revenue loss outweighs the increased profits. In some cases now the cable companies are pushing streaming options that are cheaper than YouTube TV and others. I think when I originally set my brother up with YouTube TV a few years back it was under $50. I wish Pluto had local network TV for sports. As you said there is a ton of other content on it. Like you I don't mind the commercials too much if it's free or a reasonable price.

Judging from the college sports forums I visit, YouTube TV is dominating the market for sports fans.

I get all the NFL I want from OTA. Along with some of the college football, but still, I need ESPN and Fox for most college games.

So far, Fubo TV is winning an anti-trust case vrs Walt Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), and Fox. All those big boys were going to combine on a pure sports streaming service called Venu Sports . But there's still much litigation coming.

The wife and I gave up paying to watch anything on tv about 8-9 yrs ago.We have an antenna on the roof and we stream all the free services and can conclusively say Pluto is the very worst of them not because of content but because of reliability,it continually has "network error, try again later" issues.Crackle had similar issues but I haven't used it in a very long time so I can't say how good it is these days.

Xumo,RokuTV,Plex,Fawesome and are decent but are two most used are Tubi and FreeVee.Our Samsung TV of course has Samsung TV+ which is ok.

If it's something we REALLY WANT to watch (like Yellowstone) we wait for it to come out on DVD.

Been using IPTV for years. I really don't watch much tv anymore. I'll catch the news but they are all full of BS on both networks. Watch UFC once in a while. Its all free and hundreds of channels from all over the world. Knowing what programs to use and what sites and forums give the best codes out helps. Over the years I have the better ones booked marked. Not all codes will work but with a little searching I can come up with working ones that will last for a few weeks or over a year depending on how good they. are. This is all hooked into my 65 inch TV.

That's good to know. Before I cut YouTube TV loose, we're gonna give Pluto a good trial. Although, as the article says, Pluto is the most popular ad free streaming service and its growing. They must be doing something right.

Pluto TV is awesome. There's also Tubi and a few more that escape me at the moment. We also have Amazon Prime for the shipping and it includes a bunch of movie content. I have an antenna and bring in almost 100 HD channels with that. We hardly watch TV and these options give us plenty of TV options for free. I hate subscription fees, they can sneak up on you.

I love Pluto's content but I have constant network issues with it,could very well be how my Samsung handles apps. All the other apps I mentioned work flawlessly. We watch a lot of Tubi and FreeVee.

Yes, I cut the cord in 2016. Never looked back.

Football is my weakness and hopefully, in the near future, I'll be able to get my college football games without a whole bunch of channels that I never watch.

It's on Paramount Network,a friend subscribed to find that out!
We just found that out too. I got Paramount+ for a couple months because they offered it cheap or free or something and my wife went to look for Yellowstone and found out they were airing it on paramount network...all of the latest last episodes, I think it was a marathon last Saturday.

She set them all to record and we're watching AND able to skip through commercials.

I think it's paramount plus we are watching Landman on. Another Taylor Sheridan series we are digging. People sensitive to foul language will NOT like that one! I grew up listening to Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor and George Carlin as a kid...nothing phases me!

We still have dish and will likely keep it after our deal price goes up next month. It's just easy and usually good service (as far as signal, outages, etc.) and we can afford it at this time. If we hit hard times again we would definitely have to drop it. I'm a control freak in many ways. The DVR has me/us by the gonads. I detest commercials...except some of the funny ones. But when I hear "I have type 2 diabetes and I manage it well!" I want to go all "Elvis" on my TV!...I also hate musicals unless its live theater in-person and even then they are hokey to me and those commercials are the epitome of "hokey".

SO, I too am miffed that YTTV is raising it's rates BUT I can't stand ads/commercials. It's funny to watch an old show like Mayberry RFD and see that back then a half hour show was 25-26 minutes in length, so 4-5 minutes of ads. Today a half hour show is 19-20 minutes with way too many commercials. I'll stick with ad free shows. :)

IPTV is interesting but worries me in that at the end of the day it is illegal. Those companies all operate in the gray area at best.

Just watched some PlutoTV this past weekend. The commercials were minimal compared to ABC/CBS/NBC.

We often cancel different channels and wait for whole seasons to "air" before subscribing, watching an episode per night, and canceling when through.

I do that with a few of the streaming services. Sometimes can even catch them on a month long deal to binge a new season of something cheaply. I do that with Max for the Game of Thrones House of Dragons

I'll check it out. I have Paramount+ and Disney+ at no additional cost from my ISP (Spectrum).

They dance worse than I do! But I'm right there with ya!
