Tried outside forum and gave up with the rude people so thought I would try here. Going to Playa Del Carmen with my brother and his wife end of month. I know some of you have been. I did go a couple years ago and now have an idea of the place. Looking for suggestions? We go through a lot of tequila when we get together and this the perfect place to do it! Pretty much stick to seafood.

It is still one of the safer places to go in Mexico, although the State Dept. has elevated it from Level 1 (use standard precautions) to Level 2 (exercise increased caution).

Quinta Avenida is still the street to go to for dining, shopping, and bars. Rockas Jamaican Kitchen, Lido, and Langosteria Maya are all worth visiting if you like seafood.

Use caution, have fun.

I've not stayed there, but I've passed through a number of times. If you want to see some very cool Mayan ruins out of town, Tulum to the south is great, and Chichen Itza to the west is spectacular. Xel Ha, a kind of ecological amusement park, is also to the south, before you get to Tulum. I'd imagine there are bus trips to all, which would save the potential headaches of driving.

You could also catch the high-speed ferry to Cozumel, which is where I've spent most of my time in the area. Great diving! Quaint town, especially when you get away from the big ferry docks, and renting scooters to circumnavigate the island is a lot of fun.
