This what I going to start with.
Ingredients
- Habanero peppers: 4-6 fresh peppers (adjust to desired heat level)
- Lime juice: 1/4 cup fresh squeezed
- Water: 1/4 cup (plus more if needed for consistency)
- Salt: 1/2 to 1 teaspoon (to taste)
- Black pepper: 1/4 teaspoon (to taste)
- Onion: 1/4 to 1/2 cup, finely chopped
- Optional: 1-2 cloves of garlic, minced
Instructions
- Handle with Care: Wear protective gloves when handling habanero peppers to avoid skin irritation. Remove the stems, and for a milder blend, remove the seeds and membranes as well.
- Blend Ingredients: In a blender or food processor, combine the habanero peppers, lime juice, water, salt, and pepper (and minced garlic, if using). Blend until smooth.
- Adjust Consistency and Seasoning: Taste and adjust the salt and pepper as needed. If the mixture is too thick, add more water, one tablespoon at a time, and blend until you reach your desired consistency.
- Add Chopped Onion: Pour the blended mixture into a bowl or serving container and stir in the finely chopped onion.
- Serve and Store: The blend can be served immediately, but the flavors will meld and improve if allowed to sit for at least 30 minutes, or preferably a few hours, in the refrigerator. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
