Ordered a coal grate from Amazon...

I'd heard they'd started offering Sunday delivery, but I figured it was only to metro areas and such, but no...even here in the backwoods of Bama, I got it on a Sunday.

Oh...and shipping was free...and I'm NOT a Prime member.

I'm still in a mild state of shock...:eek:...and just had to tell SOMEBODY!

I haven't used it yet, but it's heavy gauge, MUCH heavier than, say, one from a cheap grill. I'd have to go disassemble my smoker to get to it & check, but I'd say the rods seem to be "about" 1/8" thick.

I think it's going to hold up well.

I signed off Amazon last year. I use Ebay a lot for free shipping on anything I want. And if it isn't free shipping, I click on by... And if they aren't shipping from in the U.S. ...I click on by.
Amazon gave me a royal screwing when I was a Prime member. The walked away on a defective piece of equipment. So their Prime is poop, and you can't use it in the garden either.

Now Pray Tell, what is this Coal Grate? And how does coal factor into your smoker?

It goes into the bottom of the charcoal pan to lift the coals off the bottom (my setup is a modded MB charcoal bullet...drilled holes in the bottom/sides of the charcoal pan).

You could use expand steel if you need another disc for something like that.

Oh.. expanded metal its called I think.. you can buy 1x2 foot sheets at the hardware $10.00 and cut with a pair of snips good for like 13 gauge .

I thought about that...attach the grate *weld or other) to the "cage".

It would definitely hold more charcoal for longer cooks, but I'm thinking unless you used the "snake" method, it would also burn a lot hotter?

I meant you can use it instead of a grate in the charcoal pan like I have in my pan/grill inside the bushel basket. The larger yo cut the thing, the higher the charcoal is up off the bottom.. greater the space for ash.

I did something like that with expanded steel, when the center of my charcoal chimney burned out. cut out a circle with snips, PITA, and used a bench grinder to detail grind edges so it would fit into my chimney. works very well.
