Open Pit Tri-Tip

Finally found a store that sales Tri-Tip here in central PA. A good friend of mine from Cali recommended I try using my open pit so here it goes. Everything seasoned with salt, garlic powder, onion powder and Italian seasoning mix this is my wife friendly rub she has bad food allergies and can’t have pepper along with a lot of other things

At 130 I pulled the meat and wrapped it then added asparagus

Gotta have onions grilled in bacon grease and the seasoning mix

Unwrapped Tri-Tip and seared it

Texas toast toasted in bacon grease and seasoning

sliced

Mighty fine, peachy! Hard to beat an open flame for a quick sear.
Most of the meat cutters here don't even know what a tri tip is....

In case anyone is wondering I’ve found Tri-Tips at Giant foods grocery store chain. Only place I’ve found them in PA.

I’m glad I’ve never spent thousands on a smoker. Heck the 500 gallon tank build didn’t cost me that much. I’d rather spend the thousands on the meat!!
