Greetings from KCMO, home to the greatest BBQ in the world! Period!

Now, I realize that coming out of the gate in the roll-call forum with a polarizing statement like that might cause some of you to get all huffy and could alienate me a bit...however I have proof! I was born and raised in Kansas City so I was always a bit biased due to lack of experience. However, for the last 8 years of my life my career has required me to travel 40+ weeks out of each year. I've been to every state except Alaska, and I consider myself not only a BBQ aficionado, but an all around foodie. I LOVE food, and the growth of my waistline since I was blessed with a generous expense account proves it.

I've had the best BBQ from the 4 main regions - Carolinas, Memphis, Texas, KC. Folks may say that there's other kinds of BBQ outside of those 4 regions, but I would argue otherwise. Chances are any BBQ joint you find in some other city is either someone who's migrated there from one of the BIG 4 regions, or have adopted the styles and sauces from one of those regions. So in my humble opinion, there is only 4 kinds of BBQ - and KC is the Best.

Anyway, I've used an old school steel barrel smoker with a side firebox for the past 10 years or so. I don't compete, just smoke good food for me and my wife, and friends and family. I have seen several of my friends move to the electric smokers in recent years, and it just seems easier and more efficient than manning a firebox for 12+ hours. Especially if you like to smoke year round like I do. KC sees the temp extremes in Summer and Winter and it is no fun trying to keep a fire going for 12 hours in the worst of either season...

So for Christmas I asked for a MBE digital smoker, and Santa decided I had been a good boy this year! I have been on this forum as a guest in the past, but I'm really looking for some advice and ideas from guys that have been using similar electric smokers to mine. I feel like its very similar to old school smoking, but its also quite a bit different. Not to mention, I'm really looking forward to doing some things with this MBE that I would have never dreamed about doing before!

If any of you with MBEs feel like sending me some tips and tricks you've learned via trial and error, or even your fav recipes I will be very grateful! Especially some of the non-traditional, more obscure ideas/recipes of things you've smoked. I like trying new stuff, weirder the better! And if you're not from KC and planning a trip in 2014 hit me up! I'm always down to take people to some of the hidden gems around town - aside from the Okie Joes/Gates/Artie B's tour the CoC will send you on.

I'm also a homebrewer and a big time beerophile, so you and I might have a lot to talk about if you have similar interests!

Nice to meet you, and GO CHIEFS!

Regards,

Nick

Go Chiefs, Go Mizzou!

Welcome.  I've not really had BBQ anywhere but here in KC, so I'll refrain from voting. :)

Better add Smokin Guns to your list.

Welcome Nick.  Happy you joined the group. I travel for a living and had the pleasure of experiencing Q at all of the above locations many times. Depending on the smoke shack they are all excellent for their own reasons!

Hello and welcome from East Texas. This is a great site, lots of information and great people that are willing to throw in their two cents worth on about anything.
