They said our inversion of smoke is choking out the fire along with the residents... cough !!... cough !!....

The dome home is about 3 miles N of me... the three chimneys are about 1/2 mile from me.... sad.....

Yesterday, the wind was blowing from the East, and we had hazy smoke all the way here in Puget Sound.

The Ford/Long Lake area is covered in smoke. Fire crews have managed to slow its growth and are starting to talk about containment. Fire chief has said that we should expect the smoke to hang around for at least 4 weeks, perhaps double that. The smoke has convinced me that the crappy air in the Phoenix area is what caused all of the sinus crap I dealt with while I lived there....

Any news out your way, Dave?

We are getting wind and spotty rain here in North Bend.  Last night was like one of those late winter windstorms we always get - had to be 50+ mph.

Hope some of the rain hit the ground and put out some of those fires out your way.

I hope everyone is staying safe over there and the rest of the 17 states that have wildfires!

I actually just signed up a couple days ago to volunteer to fly over and help fight the fires.  I haven't heard anything yet about going, may not even go, but I hope I do, those guys need a break.  They are looking for certain qualifications that I may not have about fighting wildfires.  In western New York we don't get any, maybe a brush fire here and there, but we mainly deal with structure fires.

The airport, 1 mile from me, showed high 30's gusting winds with humidity in the 20's.. I thought the wind here was stronger than that... Officials are planning on folks leaving through Canada... The only route of escape in some areas... making arrangements for animals etc., without proper papers, for a once through to another border crossing inside a locked container...

Dave,

Did you get any of that rain, at least? It was coming down in buckets here, yesterday.

Yes we did... the airport and my rain gauge measured 0.04" of rain... may have rained harder other places... the radar showed it pouring in a few spots.. I think you guys got 95% of it over there..... No power outages here.... we got no trees to fall on the power lines....

Our power has been lost to other whims of mother nature....

Wow. Dave, from that map, it doesn't look like Canada is a viable escape route for you anymore. Can you head south?

Bride heard that what ever is burning now, they are letting it burn itself out in our area..... other areas of the state are still in danger... My buddy has a 16 hour/day job pulling repair trucks in and out with his cat and excavator.... soil is burned so deep the organic matter is gone and if you drive on what's left, it acts like flour... poof.... gone up in dust..... tracked vehicles are the mode of travel...... he has pulled vehicles in and out replacing over 400 power poles etc.... I saw a bunch of folks camping out in HD's lot... heard they were putting out 3 meals / day for folks that were evacuated.... It's amazing how folks pull together here....
