Not a good start with MES 40"

After much research here I ended up going with 1st all stainless version of the MES 40. While putting the thing the pin holding the latch in place sheared at either end. I have contact masterbuilt but was really hoping to season the thing today. Does anyone know of an off the shelf solution I could pick up from home depot that would require modifications to work? 


I have used the search function but unfortunately not found a previously discussed solution.

Just lean a chair or a shovel up against the door. Long as the vent is cracked there should be little trying to open it. Temporary fix till the part comes in.

Or another temporary cure-----Bungee cords.
