new thermometer

hey guys. Seems like everybody on here says to get a new thermometer for your smoker instead of relying on the factory one. I dont think my brinkman vertical smoker's is very accurate. What do you suggest to replace it? Where do you install it? Can I just take that one out and put another one in? I think that if i can fix this, I can fix my smoke issues
