Hello all. After reading many of the posts for about a year, i decided to join. Like alot of others i enjoyed the general barbeque on the weekends in the backyard and started like many others with the cheap Lowes gas grill and moved on from there to straight charcoal and honed my skills cooking on just charcoal because the taste just cannot be beat. I went on from there when my mother had an xl bge that she just didn't use and have to me. I love cooking on it and have done everything from Boston butt to brisket to pizza. After reading posts about homemade smokers, i thought I'd give it a whirl since i work for a school district that uses all types of food service equipment and i could get outdated pieces for next to nothing. So when one became available, i grabbed a Cres Cor food warming box and started tinkering, a little each weekend. I piped in propane for heat, cut down some stainless wire racks from some old discarded stoves, and added a pan for my chips. Fired her up last weekend for a temperature run and it seems to hold 220 right on the dot when i get it tuned in. I'm going to try to add pictures so that you guys can give some suggestions. Thanks for letting me join and I'll be looking for your feedback.
