Hey guys,
Just joined SMF this morning. I've been following the thread now for a few months and decided to join.
I was born and raised in Atlanta on good Southern cue, and moved to Cincinnati 18 months ago for a job. Married to my wife with no kids (yet).
I started smoking 3 years ago on a CharBroil American Gourmet. As a beginner, it was frustrating starting on a cheap smoker. As I learned and picked up skills along the way, I was still able to turn out some decent bbq out of that thing despite wildly inconsistent temperatures and having to baby-sit the fire basically all day. I decided to upgrade about a month ago and searched for the right smoker for hours (wanted to stay in the $300-$500 dollar range). I was able to find a guy on craigslist who builds smokers here in Cincinnati and specializes in reverse flow offset designs. He had 10-12 for sale, so I bought one last week (pics below).
I'll be smoking two whole chickens and 3 lamb shanks this afternoon as a first run. Just finished running a dry burn to take care of the oils and paint on the smoker. Pics to come soon!
Take care.
