I'm sure this has been discussed but I'm trying out my cold smoker on a butt today and I'm not really seeing the smoke I thought I would. I've poked the wood chips to make sure they aren't stuck. Vent is open, I just thought I would have a charmer of smoke when I look through the glass but nothing really. Any suggestions? Thanks

Is the top vent wide open?

You need good air flow.

I usually pull the ash tray out about 1/2" to get some air coming in.

I know this is silly, but you did turn it on right?

Is the element in the bottom getting hot?

You can't use an extension cord either.

Thank you for your response. I think I've found the problem, my wood chips are making good ash. Is getting clogged at the wirerack where the ash is supposed to fall through. When I take the chip holder out and tap the wire rack smoke rolls into the chamber. Do you recommend any particular brand of wood chips.

I wasn't happy with the wood chip design on Our MES & purchased a smoke generator through A-Maze-N Products which comes highly recommended here,I really like there wood dust product in there 5x8 Maze, the dust seemed expensive at first but You use very little dust for a smoke,& have complete control how much & how long You want to make smoke, and you can now cold smoke with it.
