Need ideas for a Smoke Daddy stand

Aloha All,

Can the more mechanically inclined assist me? I have the smaller GOSM and a Smoke Vault 24. I want to Smokes at 150 degrees or lower. The problem is, the units won’t produce consistent smoke unless the internal temps are at around 200. I have a Smoke Daddy Big Kahuna that I want to use with the smokers. Can someone give me pointers as to how to construct a stand that is freestanding that would take the brunt of the weight of the Smoke Daddy Big Kahuna, that will allow me to use it with either GOSM or Smoke Vault? I do not want the smokers to carry the weight of the Smoke Daddy. Thanks All.

Not wanting to be a wise guy but I would say improvise. I usually have the same problem you do when I run my little smoker. I made my own smoke guns, and I usally have a brick or a cement block, or both. I always a way of somehow temporarely bracing my smoke gun. After you light your gun you should only have to fill occasionaly. My guns are nothing fancy, but they do the job, and I don't need an external air pump either. I have some pictures of my guns to give you an idea. If your interested in seeing them let me know.

If you are just needing a quick and dirty idea for something to solidly prop it up, I would try an old (or new, they aren't too expensive) Christmas tree stand. Drill a hole in the base big enough for the air tube and stand it in there just like the tree stump. Should work.

I had the same concerns about the weight issue.

I used 2 - 1/2 inch pipe flanges on either both sides of my smoker with a 1/2 inch pipe nipple to keep them together.

I will look to see i I have a good picture. Go to grainger.com and search for pipe flanges. They are about 3 inches in diameter threaded for pipe.

So far I have not had a problem.

Idea #2 stick a piece of pipe, conduit or similar in the ground and secure the smoke generator to the post with a large hose clamp.

If you are on "solid ground" you can attache the pole to a piece of steel and weight it down so it does not move.

Today I tried using a soup can to hold the chips and placed it just above the burner. It started producing smoke real quick. Then I set the smoker to the lowest setting and at the same time throttled down the fuel tank as low as I could without the flame going out. Lowest temp I could get in the Smoker with decent amount of smoke production was 190. Looks like I'll be looking into building a stand to support the Smoke Daddy. Good suggestions so far. Keep em coming if you have other ideas. Thanks all...

Here is a picture of the flange that I was going to use on mine.

My smoker is insulated so i used a 2 1/2 inch pipe nipple with one of these on the inside and one on the outside, connected to the smoke daddy

These are available in stainless as well, but cost way too much for me.

but they are on "to find list" at scrap yards.

One question, is your smoker in the shade? Your the same lat above the Equator as I'm below and mine is in the shade and I can go lower than 190° in the daytime with both side vents closed and the top vent open about 3/4 inches.

I also have the smoker gas regulating valve set on high and adjust the flame with the needle valve, another thing to look at on the GOSM, there is a air mixture screen on the burner tube right after the orifice, some times grease will clog it and keep the temperatures up, if so the flames will have orange tips.

At night I can go as low as 150°, but don't really want to stay up all night to smoke jerky.

How are you going to connect the output of the smoke daddy to the units, with quick connectors?

How about attaching a metal beverage holder to one of the legs to hold the smoke daddy?

I have the medium size smoke daddy.
I Cut a 6 inch circle out of a piece of 2x6 . Drilled a 3/4 inch hole in the center of the circle then counter sunk a 3/4 inch bolt about 8 inches long you can use any length bolt you wish mine just needed 7 3/4 inches to fit. . Now you have a block of wood with a bolt sticking up. Buy a 10 lb iron weight from Wal Mart, Under 5 bucks. put that over the bolt down onto the wood for greater stability. Measure how far you want the smoke daddy from the floor and cut the bolt to length accordingly. I then cut a 1/2 inch deep 1/4 inch wide groove with my 4 inch side grinder vertically in the Bolt to grip the aluminum bottom edge of the smoke daddy and its steady as a rock. The whole build takes about 5 minutes.

I also put a T fitting on the smoke daddys entry pipe on the outside of the smoker. Ran a second hose to my other smoker. put in a couple taps to direct the smoke to the smoker in use and viola 2 for one. If I were doing it again I'd get two of the smaller smoke daddys. One for each smoker.
I really like that idea to use a wire cup hanger attached to a leg of your smoker that JustPassingThru suggested.

I'm liking the ideas you've put forth. Will look into the Flanges, as well as Beverage holders. I have the larger size Smoke Daddy so I'll take a good look at it this evening and see if I can better understand Gnubee's mounting system. Thanks again Friends.

Gene....I was smoking in the shade yesterday and today, and I was still having the temp/smoke production problems I described.
