I don't under stand the question. What pan? are you talking about putting a pan in the bottom to catch the ash?

That ash pan I have at the bottom I showed you is about 19 inches... I just grab it and pull it up at a slight angle.  It doesn't spill

I love that thing,  it catches every drip of juices along with ash.

Yup a ash pan.

Do what I told you and bend the edges way up to form the side of the pan.... Put a hook to grab it and your good to go.   I'll grab mine with the hook and pull it up by hand... Simple

Use big channel locks or pliers to bend it up

David  I'll find or take a pic of mine and send it to you... It's the simplest thing in the world and it's basically free.  It catches everything because it covers 95%of the bottom.

I didn't or wouldn't want one on my basket for a couple of reasons. 

1) you don't need to empty it often

2) I wanted something easy to take out that covers the whole bottom

Yes ash pan now. A couple of tack welds and it would be attached.
