My Stick/Biltong/Jerky Cutter

I been wanting to make one of these for sometime now. So with some down time today i made one out of oak.

I went to 4 hardware stores trying to find a new plane blade...HA Good luck. So i took one from a small plane and wire wheeled it for this cutter.

This is a working protoype cutter

Used brass deck screw to assemble, no glue. All the other hardware is SS.

Got it finished and inside where i will take it apart and use some butcher block oil on it.

Got 2 coats of oil on it, rubbed the blade down with lard and re assembled it. Tomorrow i will get some SS wing nuts.

Sorry i didnt write anything down, just built as i went.

Gotta try it on the LJ when its done.

I like the plane blade but its hard to keep from turning dark with oxidation.

SO

I have a blade and handle re design in the works. This is a 4" SS pizza cutter wheel. I put a better edge on it. Going to add some safety into the re design of the handle.

Prob going to angle the bottom block to.

You certainly have a lot of time on your hands.

How about putting a slot in the handle so it could slide back & forth on the screw like a radial arm saw?

Or cut a slot in the base so the blade can go down into the recess?

Yeah

lots of ways this can be done. i'm still working on it.

Got the cutter done today.

Still have some things to change but its all going good.

Think i'm going to raise the rear 1x2 higher bt 1.5"

Works good. I put a better edge on the blade. Way better this way than the plane blade.

 Before this project is over, we may looking at the first mini radial arm sausage saw.
