It's hard to believe how many of these type of posts have made it here on SMF. Fires go out for all sorts of reasons. Attempting an overnight cook without thinking through the possibilities is just asking for trouble regardless of brand or type of smoker. For the most part each and everyone of them could have been avoided if the one thinks through the potential failures that might occur during an overnight smoke vs waking up to find a dead smoker, cool/cold meat and not knowing if it's safe to continue. The solution is having a plan that eliminates this from becoming an issue and it's pretty simple. Use a reporting thermometer with a good alarm, make sure it's fully charged and test it to make sure it works & can wake you. There are plenty to choose from and at different price points. This is the 'ounce of prevention' your mother use to remind you about.

Bottom line, you can successfully smoke low & slow (and overnight* if you choose) with all types of equipment including pellet poopers if the necessary due diligence is followed. Throw caution to the wind and smoke blind to the potential pitfalls, you will get bit, it's just a matter of time.
*Overnight smoking does add some safety concern with running unattended equipment (some smokers are more of a concern than others). If uncomfortable, (there are many in that same boat) there's an alternative approach, bump your temps and keep it an all daylight affair.
