Was planning on doing some burgers on my new Pit Boss the other day. So my Better-Half seasoned and mix-up some nice fat ones. Well a storm front came through S/W MI. with some cool temps and some 60mph winds and at 0845hrs we went dark for better than 8hrs.. So about noonish I brought my Char-Griller offset to life and saved the day. Living out in the country you learn to plan ahead, water for drinking and for flushing, 12 volt LED lighting and lots of fire wood and a small inverter to run the two fans in the fireplace. Well my old B&D storm station gave up the ghost so off to Harbor Freight for a new (small) inverter. Now, I can't go into a bait n tackle shop and buy just one or two things so when I left H/F I was toting a 1500W and a 4000W, just planning ahead, right? The test was to run my PB off of 12 volt battery power for a simple 5hr. burn. I seasoned 4 large chicken breast with skin and bone in over-nite while my boats 1000 CCA marine battery charged up. When my PB roared to life the next day I was so happy, so after the warmup I loaded the grill leaving it on smoke mode. An hour later I cranked it to 225* and 3 & 1/2 hrs. later I was chowing on some of my best chicken yet. Now my PB is ready for emergencies and it's mobile!! YEAH.
