Migration of the Bears  (Final Refinishing)

I’m posting this for a couple reasons:
Some of you have asked if I would make Bears for you, and I refused because since my Heart & Lung problems got a lot worse 6 years ago, I can no longer Chainsaw Carve.
Also some have shown interest in getting some Chainsaw Carvings elsewhere.

So I figured I should post this to let you all know what you have to do to take care of them if you get a Chainsaw Carving.

Below you will see where I used to keep my Big Bears. Since they were always outside, they were exposed to Rain, Snow, and Sun. Since they were painted with a good Marine Varnish, the rain & snow isn’t too hard on them, but the UV Rays of the Sun really Kills them!!

So I’ve been scrubbing them with a Brush & Dish Soap every 2 or 3 years, and giving them 2 New Coats of Marine Varnish.
3 years ago, when I did them, I brought two of the small ones in my house. I put the Sitting “Buddha Bear” on the floor between the TV and the Pellet Stove, and the sleeping “Lazy Bear” on top of my Gun Cabinet, in my Living Room. This means I should never have to scrub & refinish them again.

This time I scrubbed the 3 Big Bears with a brush & Dish Soap. Like always, I had to start at the top & do a little at a time, and rinse it, so the soap doesn’t dry. Dried Soap would effect the Finishing Process. Also I had to use a step ladder to get the heads, because reaching up doesn’t work to good for me any more.

I was going to put the two smaller of the 3 Big Bears in my Pool Room, but Mrs Bear said nobody would see them there. She said put one on each side of the door in the garage that leads into our Living Room, which is the door everybody uses to enter our house.
That’s where I put them, and I’m hoping that since they’re out of the Weather & away from any Direct Sunlight, I might never have to scrub & Refinish them again!!!


So for those of you who are thinking about getting any Chainsaw Carvings, I would recommend that you find an area out of the Weather & Direct Sun, or be prepared to scrub them & refinish them every 2 or 3 years.

I know I said this before,  Since you can't chain saw carve anymore, I think you should get a Dremmel  tool and do some Mini Bears
