I was not accepted in the arm forces due to health issues but would have been a Vietnam candidate as I graduated from high school in 1961 some of the first to go there were my class mates.

Thank you to all for their service and god bless all whom gave all.

Thanks for sharing your story John.

LOL..... I had not thought of 2.3 beer in forever. And of course you know everone has a story or two involving it. LOL

Thank you Bear for your sacrifice, and all the other DD-214 alumni. I actually notice last month a small tear in my yard flag, which now is a major rip. I have anew flag to go out and swap out on the next trip to the smoker.

Talk about timing I just grabbed a cup of coffee and on the TV there is an old military B&W film with each of the branches band and choir singing their service hymm. Almost stood at attention.

Great story. Sounds like you had to work hard to get some good eats. My Dad was a Marine in Vietnam. He never talked much of his experiences but he was proud to serve this country and be a Marine. I salute you for your service and wish you great BBQ!!! Thank you for your service!!

As a cook who barbecued steaks for sailors, I will withhold a comment on Armed Forces cooks! That being said, guys getting together and cooking steaks over an oil drum was done often and was a great time. Sounds like good memories with brothers in arms.

Yup, My Brother graduated in 1962, and he went to Vietnam 3 years before I did as a class of '66 grad.
I lied about my health to get in--Didn't tell them about my heart murmur, and they didn't find it.

LOL--After a month or two of 3.2 Beers, I couldn't tell the difference!
I took my last torn flag to the VFW to dispose of it, because I don't feel right about burning it myself.
They'll respectfully burn it for you.

Brother in Law's nephew is a scout. So was I, so I just usually find a scout to give them to. You know I would probably give it more honor/reverence if I did it myself, that is why I look for a scout.

Thanks for the info though.

Thanks for the story Bear! Also, thank you for your service to our country... without you & others that have served, the fallen & those serving now... our country would not be what it is!

My Sincere Thank You To ALL Service Members! The Fallen, Our Veterans & Those Currently Serving!

Never knew how to dispose of a worn flag . I still have the first one I bought years ago in the garage .
Thanks ,,,

Richie I joined the service with a 4F, I wanted the brown water Navy. But Uncle Sugars in his infinite wisdom sent me to boats, ie submarines. Some one somewhere was looking out for me I guess. I was just young and full of pizz and vinegar. But I never saw what you and Bear did.

The rules say it's OK to burn your flag yourself.
I just can't bring myself to do it, which is why the VFW will take any American Flag & do it for you.
