So my PID arrived today and went to attack this project. Unfortunately mine is not similar to the ones I see on this forum. My has three separate compartments: the heater element, the power cord, and the motherboard (pictures attached).

Am I just using the plug to the pid and then pic to element? If someone has done it with the same unit, please let me know what you did.

Thanks.

The two black wires that go to the black relay should be cut and wire nutted together. The shiney black wire should be the power cord hot and the braided goes to the snap disc over heat switch in the smoker then to the heating element. The othe black braided heating element wire needs to be wire nutted to the smooth white wire. The smooth white wire should be the power cord neutral. And your done. Leave the geen ground wires allone and they stay terminated to the chassis. This is if you have a plug and play PID. Once wires are cut you can ohm them out for continuity to the other ends before making permanent terminations. If you have plenty of wire leave 2" of cut wire because it can always be put back.
