I am not in government.  I'm retired (and have been for more than a decade).

I saw no humor in the original post as it said:

"Government may be to big, may over tax and may inffinge on to many rights.  But you touch my BBQ and IT WILL BE A REVOLUTION!"

I call that FUD.  He was acting like they were out to get us all.
Man, sorry you didnt see the humur in my post.  I hope it makes you feel better when I say I have disbanded my revalutionary militia and have decided not to revolt

Truth be told though, regulating even non-residential barbecue pits in order to prevent "air poloution" could lead to a slippery slope of other regulations of other types and in other states and I thought the people on the forum might like to now about the regulations.

I never realized how what I do affects other people until I put out a burn barrel where I used to live.  Seems that my neighbor has a bad case of asthma.  When ever I burned trash she would get ill and have to hide inside.  Out of respect for her and to keep our good relations I decided not to use the burn barrel.  Similar to my burn barrel I have a neighbor two houses down from where I live now that would start a small, smoldering trash fire every morning.  Trust me, having that odor permeate everything in my house, my clothes and needing to keep the windows closed and AC on all spring is a hassle.

It seems to me that air pollution is a problem.  As much as I enjoy the smell of a good slow smoke I'm not sure I would like to live next to a smokehouse.  There would be no getting away from the watery eyes and congestion.

When I lived on the Bayou they built a crab processing plant just a couple of houses down the street.   Between the increased noise, migrant workers and additional boat traffic it was difficult enjoying my dock and home.  They would make three large dumpsters full of crab shell waste every morning.  Leave it in there for a day or two in the hot sun and the smell and flies would knock you out.  The health department made them have their garbage picked up twice a day when operating, including Sundays and holidays.  You may whine about government regulation, the owner of the crab dock did, but he lives a couple of miles away and didn't have to live with his own waste.

I didn't see any indication that you meant your post to be humorous -- if you did then I will apologize for not realizing that.

I thought it was funny too but that is beside the point.

Any loss of freedom and more excessive government intrusion into our lives using some trumped up half baked bullshit as an excuse is cause for anyone in this country to be concerned, regardless of which state they may happen live in.

When this kind of crap gets going, it spreads like kudzu. Living in the PRC (People's Republic of California) I should know.

The career asshats in government lacking any self respect and usually short on actual purpose or need are always out to stomp on the people they are supposed to be serving in order to justify their worthless existence and it's the pinheads out there that keep them in power and the trend spreading.

It behooves every man who values liberty... to resist invasions of it in the case of others: or their case may, by change of circumstances, become his own. Thomas Jefferson

I do live in "The People's Republic of Maryland" and I had not heard of this new reg.  Although I was in New Mexico for 2 weeks.  Philmont is beautiful this time of year.  That being said!

This is a typical Maryland political money grab.  They don't inspect ovens, why smokers?  Because "they" thought of it.  More money for vote buying.  I do expect "them" to extend this to my smoker in the future.  After all it is for the "children".

My two cents.

Also, I want to thank the original poster for the heads up.  Keep'em coming, no matter where you live!
