Does anyone know anything about this smoker?

Cajun Injector Extra Large Double-door Electric Smoker

It sounds like it would be exactly what I am looking for, but I don't want to spend that amount of money if it's built poorly or has some other inherent disability.

They don't indicate the wattage of the element.  I'd look into that.  Hate to see you get such a big smoker with a small element.

    Excellent suggestion Craig.  Thank you.

Just checked Amazon and the Cajun Injector website. Gotta be a reason why they don't specify the wattage for the heating element. I looks at their single door electric smoker and it looks surprisingly similar to the inside of a MES 30 Gen 1. Not the same, just similar.

I'd never buy spend that kind of money on a smoker when I wasn't given all the specs.

Thanks for checking for me.  I will try to give them a call.  I believe it is from Cabela.

Thanks.  I never would have thought of that.

Cabela's is selling the Cajun Injector for about $51 less than CI is selling it on Amazon. A double door seems like it could be a good idea but I think of all the heat and smoke that would be let out with the doors open even with that big interior. A lot of pros have made do with single door box smokers for years so I don't know about this. I'd wait for the reviews to start coming in or look for another smoker.

FYI, a member on a different thread told me to check north 40 outfitters.  The double wide is $299.  Thats a pretty good price.  I may pull the trigger on that next week after pay day.  lol

To me, unless you do a lot of food at once for large gatherings, etc,  I question if having a double door unit is worth it.

The double door seems unnecessary since it is smaller than a MES 40". For that much money I would get the new Gen2.5 MES 40" that seems to have good reviews.

The reason I want the larger model is because when I make beef jerky I need to lay each piece out flat and that takes a lot of surface space when making 20-30 pounds of jerky.  My small smoker takes me forever because I to keep doing small batches.  I understand your point but I am trying to figure a way to do my jerky faster and a larger smoker seems like the best way to go.

    Thanks for your reply.

That's a very valid reason.  Maybe you need a winter project of modifying a retired fridge or freezer?  Can you imagine how much Jerky you can then do at once?  [IMG]

Hey Ricksta,  Your comment about the loss of heat from opening the double doors hit a nerve.  That might have been the final pucj I needed to go with the MES 40"

Is there much differences between the different GEN's?

That does sound like a goo winter project.
1300 watt sounds pretty strong, no?  Thanks for the contact info.

Do they say what the highest temp setting is? My MES is 275.

I also read a couple of complaints about how small the chip loader opening is.

Cal Ranch has it for $279.00

Yes, 1300 sounds pretty decent but I agree with daRicksta about how much heat a double door will lose each time you open it.  Now if it was a propane smoker, it's ability to bring the heat back up in a timely manner is great.  But for an electric smoker, it's very slow.

I also see that it only goes to 275, even though it's got the big 1300 watt element, compared to my 800 watt MES30. It also goes only to 275.

How much added cooking surface does it give? I know my MES30 is 730, the MES40 is 975, but how many square inches does this one provide?

Someone contacted the manufacture for me.  the Wattage on the heating element is 1300.  sound go?

I like alomst everything about this smoker except for...  When I open both doors (which i have to if I want to take trays in and out)  The temp will drop fast.

Other than that, I Like this.  How big a deal does everyone thing it will be?

Yes the temp will drop fast and for an electric, will take the longest amount of time to come back up to it's previous cooking temp.  That's why for both of my Big Chief smokers, I really refrain from opening the door until I'm quite certain it's about time to pull the food or do a last minute meat temp probe.  Obviously this temp drop and rise is a bigger threat during winter vs a nice warm summer afternoon.
