Smoking Boston butts with the new Kingsford Sierra smoker. I've smoked meat for over twenty years, but this is my first offset barrel smoker. It got mixed reviews, but mine seems to be fairly decent for a cheap offset.

Glad it went well. Mixed reviews? But it was your first time with the new rig, so it's only going to get better.
And hey, some people would kick if you hung them with a new rope....

Your smiling Boston Butts reminds me of a shopper unloading their cart at the checkstand, struggling with something on the bottom of the cart. Probably another dissenter...

What I meant was that the smoker got mixed reviews when I was researching smokers. The barbecue is in progress. They've been smoking two hours and forty minutes. As for the smiling Boston butts, auto correct and typing in a hurry. I had heard the inventor of auto-correct died, but that was some ducking shirt

Oh, OK, but often reviews can be tainted by idle employees of the other competitors. So even though I do read some reviews, I always take them with a grain of salt. For reviews, I like to use rock salt...
The blue plate in the picture still reminds me of a Walmart Butt... :eek:o_O

LOL! Enjoy your BBQ! Hope it comes out great!

Looks like they need to go back on for a while till they reach 200 degrees or so

Well, everybody liked the barbecue, said it was great. I learned more about my smoker. Bummer that I had to finish in the oven, buy they had been in the smoker for six hours at that point. Anyway, not accustomed to offset barrel smokers, but I know the things to improve. It holds its temperatures fairly well once you get it dialed in. Probably wouldn't on a cold day.Low turnout, but most of the people who used to come to my barbecues are gone now and some of the people I had invited had to work.. I had gone nine years without throwing a barbecue.

How about using all wood and use it as a stick burner if it's a offset

Good idea. I haven't yet because I'm used to using wood and charcoal. I plan to first learn the offset with the fire I'm used to, then start doing all wood smokes. The flavor today was good, but I had trouble dialing it in. I did, but the butts spent some time in the oven because of the delay.
