Case, honestly I never thought I'd have one either but I LOVE my GMG ! I know I get crap from it but I set it & it's a done deal. She's as rock solid temp wise as you can get ! I know y'all are about your minis & I get the charcoal thing..... Been grillin/smokin with charcoal for a long, long while ! Still do, I still like charcoal & my weber kettle a bunch ! Give the pellets a chance & I think you'll like it a bunch.... For what it's worth, I started out using BBQ'ers Delight as they are a great pellet but switched to Camp Chef & they are awesome and bout $5 a bag cheaper...., they are clean burning & really efficient ! Congrats man, just go with it ! Thumbs Up

We have a local company here that makes pellets. Cheaper than all the others, plus support the local economy.

Wish these darn pellet smokers didn't require power. That's another issue I have with them. Requires two types if fuel to make them work and a smoke generator...

I understand Case, but honestly.... They take very little power as far as I can tell with my measurements of the power.... Of coarse I can't tell ya exactly, but I think they take way less power than a home computer to run.... That's cool on the pellet thing, always like to support locals ! Ya may have to face the fact..... Ya may like it ! I can tell ya, my GMG kicks out some of the best Q I've ever tasted.... I really think you will like it Case.... Just my opinion ! It is smokin with true smoke if ya get the true wood pellets ! I know you know that, just saying !

BTW all, I've never needed a secondary smoke source for my pellet smoker (GMG)..... Get plenty of smoke just as it is..... Just saying ! Can't give my 2 cents on any other pellet smoker but the GMG works awesome for me ! Thumbs Up

I'm gonna put it together, cause He who dies with the most smokers wins!
Now there is a challenge

That is a neat thread DirtSailor2003,

Considering you have the parts for the firebox and ring, but they are in poor shape, they have huge value.  I would use them to create a mold, and cast replacements in refractory cement.  While you are setting up for casting, make two sets; one for you, and one for your grandchildren. Fireboxes and Rings are a considered a consumable item on older Kamado style cookers.

The only time I add extra smoke to my Yoder pellet pooper is when doing something fast and hot, like take and bake pizza. The yoder still makes TBS when set at 400, but the pizza only takes 20 min. to cook so IMHO it just needs more smoke.

My parents just got a Texas pellet pooper and it smokes up a storm at low temps. They did a tenderloin and brought it over from Idaho for me to try and it was AWESOME yummy. Good smoke ring and great smokey flavor. It is for them, a click and walk away affair. Takes a bunch of the fun out of babysitting  smoker but ya know... sometimes easy is just easier.

You know Case I felt the same way about having an electric smoker but now I've made my own! Always felt like it was cheating but since I've been on here I see how it will be a great tool. Oh I also said the same thing about pontoon boats and now I have one and love it! Gotta try new things and hey if it sucks at least you didn't pay for it. If you love it then your mom deserves a really nice Christmas present!

I have no problem with electric. My first smoker (age 12) was a little chief. Then I upgraded to the Big Chief. Part of my Anti-Traeger has to do with the Elitist group that glammed on to them early on in Oregon. The 1%er's. If you didn't have a Traeger then you didn't know how to BBQ...

I know the type. I see it with motorcycles a lot. I have a Yamaha cruiser and the Harley riders look down their noses at me, like I stink or something (or maybe I do stink and I can't smell myself).

But, it was the best I could afford at the time, and I didn't want to go without while waiting to be able to afford a Harley. Now that I can afford one, I don't want one because I can't part with my Yamaha, it's a great bike!

Dirt, I'm in the "sell it" camp. Give the money to Mom, or share with her the smoked goodies from the proceeds.

I offered to do that, but she wants me to use it and smoke! I might give it to one of my cousins. He likes to cook but doesn't have a smoker or good BBQ. We'll see.

Going to put it together Friday and see how it works.
