The blessing and curse of sharing the Amazon account with my wife is I get all the notices to my email. Makes gift giving a bit of a spoiler. In this case I had already had my suspicions from previous conversations we had about the loss of grill space when I had to retire my last Kettle. It was a Charbroil that I had for many years but it was never kept covered and eventually rusted out. I use the heck out of my Mini WSM and MES, but I miss the grill space doing chicken parts, full rib racks, etc.

I have learned so much on SMF (post Charbroil retirement) that I never got a chance to try on my old kettle. I am SO looking forward to the new Webber Original Premium 22" Copper! The notice says it arrives Friday. :-)

Congrats love my 1 touch performer

You know?!? *gasp* Can you act surprised? Lol.

The same thing happens here with the Amazon account. We're always telling each other, "Don't look! Ok?"

You sound like you're dancing around, going "Tee, hee, ...hee,heee..."

Thanks. Those are pretty neat! The cart with a table sure would be handy. But I'm not looking this gift horse in the mouth!

Congrats, remember Fathers Day is still a week away.

You're right Kevin. I'm not sure how she is going to keep it hid for another week, and I'm guessing she wont be able to wait either. Not to mention she got her mothers day gift a few days early (Caribbean hammock). However I go in to the doc for a procedure on Friday morning that I wont be in any condition for at least a day or 2.

Yes Kris. I will act it out of kindness. I am pretty stoked. But the hard part is deciding what to do first! I just so happened to be thawing out some ribs, and I have some pork cubed for some more Thai pork kebabs too.

Cool beans!! That’s a nice color too! Hopefully to see some pics on Friday!!!

congrats, looking forward to see some of your future cooks

I will be resting at home on Friday after a medical procedure, but that wont keep me down too long Justin! It will need put together and seasoned in first. Ill keep you posted!

Thanks Doug. I've got something in the works for grilling or smoking just about every day, but don't post up but a fraction of stuff. My back deck/patio area is in the process of a remodel/landscape. My grills and Q's WILL be covered! So I'm confined to smoking out the garage for now until that is all done. I gotta figure out where put the new Kettle until then.

Oh I have a spot! Its just not ready yet. Here is a picture of the back deck of the house when we moved in. Notice how the slope of the hill comes all the way up to the house and the wooden deck is elevated? The problem is with water runoff to the foundation

RIP old Kettle! I wont cook on a wooden deck anymore for fire safety reasons. Also notice the dirt that is being excavated back to make a real patio.

Only so many months in the year to excavate.

A new paint job on the house that was overdue.

The deck is getting dismantled and the dirt getting removed from underneath. As it is the deck puts the gutters about at eye level. And a LOT more dirt to move the wall back further still. Paver brick patio with a covered pavilion for a new cooking and outdoor fire pit is going in.

If you like wings the first thing I would do is buy a Vortex. Since it's now just my wife and I - the kettle gets used a whole lot more the the WSM for both grilling and smoking.

Chris

Congrats on the Kettle,I am taking my SILs he doesn't use it or want it.
The work in the yard I am familiar with that.
Richie

Congrats on the new Weber!
It will probably outlast your deck!
Al

That’s a major project. What a great spot for grilling
It is so peaceful out here. Yes, tending Q is very relaxing and enjoyable. I love living in the boonies. But the place has had a lot of projects to get up to par.

Congrats on the new Weber, Erik. Definitely looking forward to seeing pics of it earning a living in your new backyard.

Thanks Ray. I just wish it was done already. It may not look like it but that is A LOT of dirt to move- even with my tractor. I can say with certainty it won't be done this summer. But I will get there!

"If I like wings"... PAH! Who do you think you are talking to? :p
Yup. I have a wish list for it already- Vortex and a slow and sear.
My Mini WSM has served the two of us quire well for most things. The little Smokey Joe part does a really great job, but looking forward to things like more wings, and full racks of ribs etc. The MES 30 is getting a break

Thanks Richie. And if you were closer I would share all the BBQ you want, but I might put you to work now knowing that!
I guess your SIL doesn't know what he's got or just needs lessons from a wise master like you.

Congrats on the new Weber!

Thanks Al. I'm sure it will. In fact I'm not so sure this old deck will even go back in at all if I have my way about it. The boss on the other hand....

Got the Weber Kettle cleaned, assembled and getting seasoned in, and first meal.
Jazmine is keeping watch while I start some RO Chefs Select.

A few chunks of maple.

Meanwhile back at the kitchen… Cleaned up a few carrots, melted some butter with sesame oil for basting.

Baste.jpg

Moved the remaining briquettes to one side, and got the temps choked back down before starting the carrots. A little char on the carrots, basting continuously before moving to indirect.

On the grill. Oh the smell of that char and coconut!

Fire was dying out from the seasoning in on high for that length of time. Had to add some more coals.
