Hello everyone.

My name is Jason, and i have been smoking for about 15 years now. I have been lurking around this site for a while now and decided its time to join in. I have had numerous smokers over the years but I'm currently running a Big Joe Kamado, and an old masterbuilt propane which I use for cold smoking.

Jason.

Welcome BigRed. I know Avila. I grew up in Ft. Wayne and the grandfolks lived on Skinner Lake and I spent most summers there. Good memories.

Thanks braz, yeah I'm familiar with Skinner Lake i worked in Albion and drove by skinner everyday.

Do you guys know Rt. 62 from Dillsboro to Madison? The Chief White Eyes Trail.
One heck of a drive.
Unfortunately i haven't been south of Indy yet but I hear it's nice down there.

Good morning and welcome to the forum from a cold day here in East Texas, and the best site on the web. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about everything.

Indiana and Ohio are similar in that their northern halves are flat and their southern halves are hilly because they didn't get the glaciers. You could drive Interstate 70 across the flats without much to keep you awake behind the wheel.

Rt. 62 crosses some deep valleys so there are some very interesting twisty turns and inclines. Those valleys are deep because of some very complicated geologic history of the Ohio River valley. Google "deep stage Ohio"

Madison is a funky little town with its old part on the bottoms along the Ohio River. It was a thriving business center in the riverboat days but the railroads stayed on the high ground and cut it off. There was the Madison Incline Railroad Cut which was the steepest standard-gauge railroad incline in the US, trying to climb about 400 feet from the river bottom to the flat high ground. There was a failed attempt at running a rail line through what is now Clifty Falls State Park, including an unfinished tunnel which you can hike through. Bring a lantern.

Can't do this without a plug for the Thomas Family Winery (tell them Alex sent you) and the Riverboat Inn. Yeah I've nursed some hangovers watching the barges going under the Rt. 421 bridge.
