Hello from North Dakota

I am new to the forum, but have been reading like crazy for the past couple of weeks.

I have been smoking for the past 4-5 years with a Big Chief, but have outgrown that unit several years ago.

My family and I hunt and fish quite a bit and the main use for my smoker comes in the fall after deer hunting. We typically smoke about 75-100 pounds of venison snack sticks and 50-75 pounds of venison jerky. My Big Chief can only hold about 12-13 pounds of meet at a time, so you see my current dilemma.

I am curring looking at purchasing a GOSM 3605BGD because of the large cooking area as well as the reviews/recommendations on this site and others. FYI, I just started a new post on where to find the best deal on this unit in the following forum section:

I just wanted to introduce myself and thank everyone in advance for the information that I have already received and looking forward to to learning much more.

Welcome to the SMF, and thanks for the introduction. You can't go wrong with the GOSM big block. Just don't trust the factory installed therm, and get an extra propane tank. You'll thank yourself in the future. It's all good my friend.

Most of my family is from the Valley City area. I grew up there and also Grand Forks before finding a much more agreeable southern climate.

I live in Fargo, but spend a fair share of my spring to fall on Lake Ashtabula north of Valley City. I rent a lift for my boat at Bayshore Resort and camp and fish there as often as I can in the summer. I may have to try smoking some fish this summer.

I fished there many times as a kid with my grandfather. Good memories.
