I have been lurking around for a while but this is my first post. I wanted to say thank you for all the advice, recipes, tips and tricks!

I started out about 8 years ago with a super cheap charcoal bullet smoker which was a gift from my mother... it actually did great with chicken, brisket, pork, everything (as long as it would fit) but then i had kids and no time to babysit the coals so i bought an MES40. The MES was convenient, but i never figured out how to make good BBQ on it, chicken was rubbery and brisket never came out well. I also got tired of the pellet maze... when it worked it was great, but sometimes it would just go out or it would burst into flames in the smoker and burn up. So i just slowly stopped smoking...

One of my neighbors had us over for memorial day and schooled me in the ways of the pellet smoker (he had a traeger), and i caught the bug again... big time. I just dropped a mint on a Rec Tec RT-700, which i am hoping will have the Q quality of the charcoal with the convenience of the electric smoker. We shall see.

Anyway, thanks again and see you around!

Welcome to the forum!
Plenty of guys on here with that smoker & all you hear is good stuff!

I ended up cancelling my order yesterday. The Rec-Tec looks like a fine machine, but i mentioned it to a guy I work with and he showed me his Yoder 640... it was love at first sight. He mumbled something about buy-once, cry-once....

anyway, somehow my budget has crept from the $600 Costco pellet smoker to a ~$2,500 monster that may require reinforcing my deck. How am i going to explain this to my wife? The good news is that there is a Yoder dealer only 25 miles from my house.
