Hello from Helsinki, Finland!

My wife and I like to make sausages at home as well as all sorts of other good food. We also like to make bread and I have recently been thinking to start dabbling into cheesemaking.

Any questions about Finland, just ask me :-)

Welcome to the forum, happy to have ya join up.

Hi Podzap,
Welcome to
small-logo.png

Lots here to see, and plenty of room to share!
What are some of your favorite sausages?

Podzap, are you Finnish or an expat? My wife and I spent a week in Helsinki several years ago. Loved it. I found the people to be warm, friendly, and approachable. We walked and toured the city and took the ferry over to Tallinn for a day. My favorite food was reindeer and mashed potatoes; had it three times. I understand Finnish food is not all that great, but what we ate was great. Spent a day in Porvoo and ate muikut at the town market for lunch. Wish I could get those little fish here in the states.

Keep us posted on what you're making.

I enjoy the Greek sausage from the island of Tinos (Tinos Sausage), which is very near to Italian Salsiccia (basically sausage that is heavy on fennel and red wine).

Other favorites are hot Italian and Spanish chorizo, Thuringer bratwurst, etc.

My wife came up with an idea to make a blue cheese and garlic sausage this weekend, so we'll see how that goes.

I am a naturalised Finn and have lived here for almost 20 years (yes, I speak fluent Finnish as well) :-)

There are quite a lot of good Finnish foods, but the sausages generally suck. There has been a bit of a renaissance here lately, however, and sausages are looking better now.

Muikku (plural is muikut) is called Vendace in English. It is a salmonoid type of fish. They are awesome when fried in oil and salted. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coregonus_albula

We certainly do like to take lots of photos of our food making escapades, so no worries there.

Oh Yeah! I love some Hot Italian Sausage as an appetizer when BBQing for Family and Friends. It gets done quick, slice it and stick it with toothpicks. Come and get it! (If I haven't eaten it all myself... :emoji_yum: )

OH! Blue Cheese and Garlic, two of my favorite flavors!
Definitely do try that! She is wise!
If you don't want your's, I'll eat it!:emoji_thumbsup:
