finally joined. well, i have trolled for a year, on and off, while researching an electric smoker. wanted a smokin-tex or smokin-it type unit, but didnt want to spend that much. amazons current price of $149 on an MES 20070910 finally made me bite. i figure if i have to replace parts or rewire in the future, the cabinet is of decent enough quality that the unit will still cost less over the long run. and all of the different mods on here allow for customizing. i also ordered a veranda cover for it (just in case i have to leave it outside overnight) to match my propane grill and weber 22.5 silver kettle. today, i will order an a-maze-n pellet smoker and a maverick and some pitmasters choice pellets from todd and pick me up some bogo babyback's from the store for my first attempt, just need to figure out a good rub. anyway, glad i finally joined this site

Welcome, neighbor.

For your rub research, I'd seriously consider ordering Jeff's recipe. Not just trying to plug the owner's recipes, but his rub and sauce have been staples of mine since I got them. At the very least they give you an awesome starting place. At best, like me, you'll have bought the last recipes for sauce and rub you'll ever need.
