Hand me down SnP

As I stated in my intro thread, I inherited a buddies SnP when he moved away. He used it, um, stock (car guy thing) with a water pan to distribute the heat for about 10 years and never really tended it much. It had a pretty good amount of surface rust on it when I got it.
I've since sanded it down, and have been working on seasoning the exterior and adding the common offset modifications. I think I've finally got it dialed in.
I've added a chimney extension, deflector and tuning plates too it.
Here after 45 minutes of preheat/cool down.

I also replaced the board on the shelf, they looked pretty funky when I got it.

Still haven't quite mastered the whole TBS yet.

Before I smoke any meat, I've been buttering it up with some crisco. I've got a pretty good layer of carbon forming. Hopefully, I'll get a few more years service outta this old girl.

It looked pretty rough when I got it...about the only thing left to do is break out my stick welder and tighten up the legs. The little screws that are currently holding it together (barely) are too rusted to do anything with. I'll just tack-weld the joints and call it a day...if I'd get off my lazy tush. :lol:

Thanks, it's starting to come together.

I agree...although, I wish my buddy hadn't had to move away to get it...I really should have started smoking years ago...had I only known how much fun (addiction) it is.

One day I hope to master the thin blue...I'm working on it.

I've got a few more plans for 'ole girl'. Once I find some stretched steel, I'll be making a fire box. I also have a 'scraper' made to clear the ash out of the fire box for those extended smokes, I've just got to weld it together and drill the hole.

If I could find one of the older heavier models like that one, I'd toss my newer thinner, lightweight Walmart model in a second.

Nice job on the restore and it sounds like you are well on your way to mastering the thin blue.
