I was recently referred to this site by a coworker who had a large hand in getting me hooked on smoking (the hardwood kind not the plant kind

 ).

My smoker is a Traeger Junior that I purchased about 6 months ago. It has since been greatly modified and I smoke a cut of meat every chance I get (wallet permitting)

Modifications I've made:

 - Replaced S-M-H controller with Ortech digital

 - RTV gasket for door

 - Thermal battery (pro sounding name for a big foil-wrapped block of sand that lays in the bottom of the grill for heat recovery when I open the door)

The goal of the mods I've done has been to improve temperature control on the little guy and it's come a long way from the 50+ degree temperature swings it had stock. I'll definitely upgrade my smoker in a couple years, but for now it's serving great as training wheels.

Hello and welcome to the forums!  This is the best place I know for sharing ideas on smoking, grilling, curing, etc.  There are plenty of friendly, knowledgeable folks who really enjoy helping one another.  Looking forward to your input here, and just ask when you need anything...someone here will surely have the answer.
