First time smoker from Rochester, MN.
After thinking about buying a smoker I finally took the plunge. I called a cousin whose husband had done a lot of smoking before he passed. She told me how they had started with charcoal, progressed to electric, and finally bought an Propane unit. She was gracious to let me borrow it and try some smoking. I was hooked!
I started looking around and finally decided on the Masterforge from Lowes. I liked the double doors, and the general overall design of it. It was also a lot heavier than my cousins. Well I soon found out that it had a few shortcomings. I checked this forum site, and found a lot of tips on the web. I immediately found some fiberglass gasket rope material at Fleet Farm and installed that. I then scrounged up a high pressure regulator and installed that. And then, probably the biggest improvement was trimming the front and back of the water tray 1/2" with my Aviation snips. That was it, now it heats up perfectly with the high pressure regulator barely doing anything. If only the low pressure ones had "just a little bit more" or if the unit was insulated would help too.
Anyway, I have enjoyed learning from everyone else's experience and will be checking often for more tips. Thanks! Roger
