Friend called me and said he wanted to know if I wanted a free UDS smoker. I looked around to see if someone was playing a joke on me. He was serious. He said it opens from the side and has dolly wheels attached to it. I will post pictures of it tonight. It is interesting because he said the fire bowl is made from a large drum brake with feet welded on. And the water pan is similar just smaller. I asked where he got it from. He said a laid off welder was selling some off the side of a road for 150 bucks each a few years ago. One of those down on his luck situations and he was making these literally on the side of the road with his welding truck in a covered tent. He said he bought it because he wanted a smoker. He now uses a traeger. I remember eating ribs made from it and they were awesome. I will pick it up and post pics. Hopefully, I won't have to do much to it. I do not want to mod. He said the only thing he recommended was adding an exhaust vent on top and a inlet vent on the bottom along with a gasket on the door and a coat of paint. I am ok with those. Pics coming I promise.

Sweet... The only other thing I would think about would be a charcoal basket instead of the brake drum.. the basket will let the ashes fall out and not smother the fire ... try it like it is and see what happens ...

That's awesome.

Fire it up and see how bad it leaks.

It vents out some sides and lots on the door. Gasket should fix that. But will then need to add the inlet on the bottom and the exhaust on the top. All are on the way. 50 bucks not bad. I like the charcoal basket idea. Might try that too. But this one is designed to leak out on the sides.
