Our neighbors moved here about 2 years ago from Germany. They are wonderful people and have really learned to love BBQ and the standard stuff we grill here in the US. At some point almost every week, one of us is traversing the yard between us taking a food dish of some sort to the other home. She is an awesome cook!
Well, a week or so ago the neighbor lady asked if I could duplicate her husband's favorite sausage, Weisswurst. Challenge accepted. I put out the word on here for a recipe and had one within a few hours! Thanks all.
I have no idea what all I ate this evening, but the neighbor assures me that he will email me the names and recipes of the dishes we had.
I made the weisswurst and the pretzels
This "pie/quiche" was out of this world! I didn't understand most of what the ingredients were since she didn't know the English translation, but I did catch eggs.
In this picture, note the empty bowl, it had obatzter in it. Holy cheesy goodness! Brie, cream cheese, butter, beer, and some spices. It didn't last long and will be made here very soon!
For dessert, again, I didn't catch the name of it, but it was a pear cake of sorts that was sinful tasting. My bride also made a buttermilk pie to give them a Texas offering.
We finished the night with a Polish vodka that was quince infused.
And finally, I got what I think is the biggest compliment any of my sausages have ever gotten. This is my neighbor's mother who is visiting from Germany. She said she was amazed to get weisswurst in Texas that tasted like home!
The little guy above ate 2 links, that boy is a carnivore for sure.
Perfect ending to the weekend.
