First Time Smoker - MES Owner

Hey everyone!  My name is Mike and I live in Northern VA.  I absolutely love BBQ and have decided to take the plunge and venture into doing my own smoking at home.  I've been reading these forums for a month or 2 now, already signed up for the 5-day course, and have been patiently waiting until Amazon dropped the price on the MES 30.  Well that finally happened this week and I got the MES 30 (model 20070910).  I'm a complete amateur, but I can already thank this site for steering me towards the MES 30, Todd and his AMNPS, the Maverick thermometer, and some great advice.

I'm very excited for my first smoke (this weekend??).  I read that I need to season my smoker first, I'm guessing I'll need standard wood chips for this rather than the pellets from Todd?  Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike and welcome to the SMF.

I have included a link that deals specifically with your model MES, but if you follow the directions that came with the unit you will be fine.
