In my experiences with rubs, the salt and paprika are twice as much as the other spices and when you use brown sugar a packed amount equal to the same amount in spices. This is for a paprika based rub. Looks as if you may have had too much salt, and it showed in the final taste. Rubs are all about taste, wharever taste good to you... that's the mix.
