Featured Finally got a Hobart Slicer......now I hope it is a good unit.

No idea what I got myself into, as I was hoping for a small 410 model Hobart Slicer but I bought this big old tank, only knowing that it ran when plugged in by a friend of mine. He went to look at it for me.

I can’t seem to find a model number in it and have no idea where to start. Do I change gear lube ? Leave it alone? Do I even have the correct sharpener with it?

Another day, I’ll clean it up real good and try to find out as much as I can before I fire it up or actually try to cut meat with it.

Does anyone here have knowledge of this particular unit? Can’t find a model number but it says Spec 8064 on the plates

Nice find ! Check out the Hobart web site. Lots of info there and you can download old user and parts manuals. I have an old 410 and it works great. Good luck with your project. I believe 8064 is the model number

First thing I would do is to make sure the blade can be removed to clean behind it. I had to put penetrating oil on the screws for mine for 3 days and use a hand held impact driver to remove them. Then give it a thorough cleaning.

Thats a beast. 8064 is the model. I have a 1612. We also have a Hobart repair place here. They changed out a leaking seal. The stones looks like the ones we have for ours.

Found this online. Shows a “spec 8064” is actually a 1612 ? Must have been before they put a model number on the plate?

The no such thing as a BAD Hobart, at least as long as they still work. Hobart retain their value even decades later. When setting up one Restaurant I was looking at a 1950's 18" Hobart Buffalo Chopper. The dealer wanted $2500! When I scoffed, he showed me the price of a New Hobart... $9000. I bought the used one and didn't have a single problem with it...JJ

I’ve since cleaned the slicer all up and used it a half dozen times without any issues.

I took apart the thickness selector and cleaned it up so it is smoothe as butter now. It was so gummed up that it was terrible to turn the selector knob.

I also sharpened the blade.

I am very please with this unit.

I just sliced up 6 whole pork loins into 1/4” thin chops. I think it was 180 chops. All the dark meat and ugly oddball pieces went into a vac seal bag in the freezer, for making pork jerky very soon.

I still wish I had a Hobart 410 instead of this one, for the amount of room it takes up. I have bought 3 stainless tables too so the grinder, slicer, stuffer, etc have a permanent home in the basement.
