These companies are charging too much which is lowering traffic which is making them raise prices.
That statement above is what happens when an economic sector is in a bubble that is marching toward a crash. People will shift their spending habits, which is apparent in this thread. We might eat fast food/restaurant meals once a month when it used to be once or twice a week, even more when we were in the office every day. Plus, as the population ages, which it has, fast food becomes less desirable and the market shrinks.

Our food spending habits have shifted into the home, away from eating out. I make many things I used to buy at the grocery store because they priced themselves beyond the point I was willing to pay.

Once the buying shift happens across the market, the bubble will burst.

A few weeks ago Walmart was charging $5.59 for an 8 ounce bag of plain potato chips. That's $11.18 a pound ... at Walmart!?!?!? Are they freaking nuts???

Nobody can convince me that Walmart isn't gouging the crap out of their customers.

I haven't seen anything that high on chips near me yet but I think all the grocery chains have been gouging since the start of covid. What scares me is that Kroger is trying to buy\merge with Albertsons. If that happens look out...the skies the limit for higher prices then.

Yeah, that's not good for competition. The only other large grocer by me is Winco, and it's packed enough with people already.

KFC been saving me a 10 piece xtra crispy bucket only 10 bones ... That's three meals for me baby.

Your not missing much. We had KFC last week and the thighs looked like they came off a parakeet. No more KFC for us.

We rarely get fast food, usually only on a long trip and stuck at a rest stop. We usually pack sandwiches on a low carb roll. Taco Bell is about the only FF I will partake in and that is maybe 2-3 times a year. I have a feeling if I stopped at any of them and saw the prices I would leave. 6 months ago 2 - 12" subway was $27?????

We're not either. We'll buy a pizza once every couple of months and that's usually it. The KFC purchase was a spur of the moment thing. We were doing some shopping, and it was dinner time. KFC was on the way home so we tried it. I still like their coleslaw and buy it when I'm smoking a butt.

Went out to eat tonight with some family members... from out of state. Granted it wasn't fast food and was very tasty. But family was here because of serious health issues... life threatening actually. Also within the last week had news of an acquaintance, 45 years old, died of a heart attack. 5 young boys and a wife left at home. How important is the price of a fast food meal ???

That is tragic Ryan. Sorry to read.
I almost jumped on my insurance platform. No, I am NOT an agent nor a supporter of the "this is not to pass up" marketing..

I been hungry for fried chicken. I like Church's spicy. Looked at price. $12 for a 3 piece. Decided I did not want that bad! Went home and made taco's.

You've got that right!

Who came up with the bizarre way to cut up their teeny-tiny chickens? And part of the rib bones are included on chicken breasts!

I made chicken cacciatore Saturday using chicken thighs from Costco. Those thighs had to be at least 2 and maybe 3 times the size of the thighs from KFC.

nm not bothering

I used to abhor FF. I haven't eaten McD's in 15 years ( Super size Me did that). Haven't had a Subway for over 20 years, and KFC was awful to begin with.
Now with 6 people to feed everyday, we will get FF once or twice a week. I prefer Chickfila. At least it's real chicken. I just don't look at the price. I still avoid McD's, Taco Smell and Wendy's.
Nowadays if I can get enough food for under $60, I feel like I did okay. It's ridiculous I know, but we gotta eat, and I cannot cook everyday after working all day.
Last week we went to Jersey Mike's, food was good and final bill was under $60. For 6 adults!
Panera which is my wife's favorite, usually is over $100 for my household.
During football season Domino's had some good deals. We once got 6 pizzas for a little over $25.00. Shameful price gouging on all of the chains.
When I cook, smoke, bake food now it is done on the weekend. Except for homemade spaghetti or tacos. I can fix that pretty quick. We do tend to "fend for yourself" nights more and more.

Dominos is good in a pinch, and last I checked they had a 5 topping large for 9.99. We have a family owned pizza shop here that's pretty good, but the pizza's are closer to 20.00+ for a large.

The last time we ordered a large carryout regular crust Roundtable pizza the cost with a 10% tip was like $42. My wife and I get two dinners each off it. Price per serving ($42/4): $10.50. Previous to the price run up, the pizza cost was in the low $30's. Now when we want pizza I make it myself.

Rough estimate of what it costs me to make our favorite semi-thick crust POP POP pizza (half-baking sheet size) at currect prices. My wife and I get three dinners each off one pizza.

Sauce: $1.40
Dough: $1.10
Toppings: $16.00 (store-bought mozz/provolone/pecorino romano cheeses, store-bought Italian sausage and pepperoni, onions, and garlic).
Time: 3 hours, disregard.
Gas oven: disregard
Total: $18.50.
Price per serving: $3.08.

That's actually more than I thought it would cost, but still worth every bite and better than commercial pizzas. I've never made pepperoni. I could cut $2 off my price by making my own Italian sausage but I've run out and got lazy. Need to make more.
