Lite enabling alert.

I picked up one of these on an impulse. I like hard boiled eggs, but do care making them. this thing is great and cheap! Took a few tries to get the process right for my altitude, but its dialed in now.

If you get on the step where you poke a hole...make the hole very tiny. If its full sized the egg squirts out. Not sure its truely necessary, nervous to try with no hole because a blow up sounds like a mess.

Ah I can't even count on the number of eggs we "exploded" in the MW back with the MW came out...... Since no camera phone or social media the repeat sharing had to be done in person with said buddies eggs and a promise to clean up after the egg works.....LOL

I'd pay 10 times that if it would peel them too lol. I've tried ALL the methods and have concluded I just suck at peeling eggs.

Instant pot . The shells almost fall off .

My wife has one of those egg cooker things. I believed she tried it once IIRC. I saw it this evening buried in the back of the deepest, darkest corner cabinet/cupboard, which ever one is at floor level. I was looking for a jar of jelly she said was down there. The jelly wasn't and I didn't tell her about the egg thing. Probably would have made me pull it out so she could try it again and not use it ever again.

She also has a lot of other kitchen gadgets that I occasionally find in the depths of the kitchen. Even has a bread maker that she has never used. She did read the instructions, though!

Pretty cool.
I once saw a thing about poaching an egg in the microwave using a shot glass... So of course, I had to try it. It didn't go off until I opened the door.
With the sound it made, I thought I had been shot lol 😂

I've looked at that, but I really don't need another gadget on my countertop.
My method has aways been poke a small hole in the blunt end, then drop eggs into highly salted boiling water for 15 min. Remove and plunge into ice water for several minutes. Works every time. Shells often come off in 4-5 pieces.
The other night, I was pressed for time, so Android phone said place in cold water, wait until it boils, then turn off and cover and wait 12 minutes before the ice water plunge. Tried that, and the dang shells wouldn't peel without taking half the white with it.

Put your eggs in a pot. Fill the pot with cold water. Bring the water to a boil and then turn off the heat. Let the eggs sit in the water for a few minutes. Drain the water and refill the pot with cold water. Peel the eggs while submerged in the cold water or under running cold water. Older eggs work better then fresh eggs.

These fall of in two pieces usually. I make it a challenge to see if I can peel it in one piece :) It's the little things in life that bring me joy...and my ocd :emoji_laughing:

So many methods, myths etc. for boiled eggs. I haven't had a problem since I learned to steam them. Bout a half inch of water in a pan, poke a hole in the fat end with a push-pin/thumb-tack, place in the pan with boiling shallow water, cover and steam med-high to the firmness you like. I like a soft boiled at 7 minutes, and slightly wet at 10 minutes, fully hard at 12.

Remove from heat, run tap water over till just cool enough to handle and peel, starting at the fat end. Poking the hole allows steam/water to enter the membrane between the shell and egg. You HAVE to get that membrane to peel with the shell. Letting them cool too much is the fatal mistake, and ice? Why? It's a myth.

Last time my wife made deviled eggs she used one of the traditional methods, cooled them and had hell to pay trying to peel them...as usual...ugly eggs. I whupped up a half dozen using my method and had them peeled in no time to rescue the deviled egg platter. When they are still slightly warm, they flex better and release from the shell. YMMV but it works for me at 400 feet above sea level.

If your going to poke a hole in the egg and steam it hard. The take a longer needle and break the yoke. Put your thumb over the whole and shake the egg vigorously. Then steam it and you should wind up with hard boiled scrambled eggs. Done right they look pretty cool when peeled.

Ive got it down now and they peel easy every time. Cant ever get it right in a pot. I think its the altitude. 8200 ft messes with some cooking...not smoking thank good.

With this gismo, the directions say to add more water at altitude. couple tries got the water quantity dialed. After it stops I let them sit in the cooker another 5-10, then ice bath. Easiest consistent peeling ive ever done.

I have never had any issues just using a pot filled with water. Bring water to a full boil. Set in eggs using a spoon. Boil eggs for 12 minutes after last egg is in. Cook cpl minutes less for soft boil. Empty water into sink. Refill pot with eggs in it with cold water and let sit for few min. If still too hot to peel, repeat cold water bath. Peel eggs. Roll the eggs on counter to crack the shell.

I remember when I got mine could not wrap my head around you use less water for more eggs. I been using these things for many years.

I remember seeing that! Cant remember if I tried it.

I DID try the shake a boiled egg in a glass jar half filled with water thing though. Didn't work, the eggs the Mrs. boiled were just too tenacious. But, with all those messed up eggs too ugly for a deviled egg platter I made some righteous egg salad!
