I put this in this forum because it’ll be charcoal fired. Got all this for zero, I’ll need a few things to build it.

Here are a few links I found for general info:

I’ll need to determine the number and size for air and center ash holes diameters. There are a couple different design approaches.

I cleaned everything up and set a place for it.

The hole in the large concrete pot is 3/4” and the hole in the tandoor base pot is 1”. I’ll need to determine how much air flow I’ll need next.

Looks very interesting.
I would think that the clay pot would crack drilling holes or cutting base off ?

Cut the lid off the top and drilled holes today.

I used some stove mortar on the two pots and got some vermiculite for insulation. I bent a can to set the pots above the cement base to let air in/ashes out, without the vermiculite settling at the holes and block the air/ashes.

Started a fire with charcoal and some oak to slowly bring the temp up.

It maxed around 600, I used the end of a knock off brand bag from camping last year, so I’m going to get a fresh bag and see if it gets hotter.

I don’t think it was getting enough heat. The plate drilled with holes probably wasn’t letting enough air flow underneath and maybe didn’t hold enough charcoal.

This basket holds a bunch. I also have a stove grate from an old gas grill under it and now it really cooks. I ended up bending the basket handle back a little to sit against the wall.
