Difference in butts?

Hey, everyone.

I have been to a few different stores to check on the prices of meat and I was wondering if there was any difference between Boston butt, Boston Butt pork roast and pork roast or are all of these the same thing?

I usually just buy a Boston butt or picnic, since that is how I know the meat and I don't want to buy the wrong thing. However, a grocery store around me is selling Boston butt pork roast for $1.29 per pound, which is a lot cheaper than the $2 and change I spend  per pound on Boston butt.

As far as I know "roast" is a generic term for large cuts of meat, but I'm no expert. Hopefully some butchers will chime in, but there's a good chance that Boston butt & Boston Butt pork roast are the same thing. However, just plain old "pork roast" could mean other things (loin? shoulder?)

The other explanation for the low price could be seasonal. In the last week or so, folks have been posting on this forum that they are seeing boston butt roasts on sale at their local stores, so there could be a nationwide surplus on boston butts. Just my 2 cents.

I think that the roast is just a smaller cut off of the Boston, at least that's what it appears to be here in the deep south.
