Got invited to hunt my buddy George's property again, bring my younger son he said... No need to ask twice.
Thursday night I made a killer Pot Roast dinner to bring, Friday morning I made Lemon Bars and my son made Snickerdoodles

Loaded up and made it in time for the evening hunt.
Set up on a nice plot and had six does as live bait, and good bait they were.
Had a horny 6pt come on the plot, he stopped and started showing off for the gals, dirt flying as he pawed around, scraping on low hanging branches and breaking them all the while grunting at them too.
The ladies didn't seem too impressed, LOL.

I told my son to "Kill him", and he dropped him in his tracks with my Savage 16/FCSS .308.
He was about 3 yrs'ol, weighed 160# and very healthy.
My son and I were both thrilled, this is his second buck.

We're here till Monday, wish us luck.
Looking for nice bucks and hogs.

Very nice John, looks like y'all are having a great time. Tell your son congrats on his buck!

Nice . Can't beat a .308 for white tail . I was over 50 when I shot my first buck , so nice job hangin with the boy .
Hey not sure what you do with the head / rack , but mountain Mike's makes a nice Euro style skull to put the antlers on . I'm doing one now if you want to see it let me know .

Remind me not to do any showing off for the ladies down your way John. Congrats to the son that's a fine looking buck.

Chris

Nice looking Buck John! Tell the kiddo Gratz!

Maybe some year you can come hunting in WI..we got a 40 acre spread up North I haven't been to in a long time, need some hunting buddies to motivate me!

Fine job!

Always good seeing the kids take a nice deer! My buddies kid is 8 years old and he shot a 6 point buck at 180 yards with a 450 bushmaster this season!

Very nice Buck!
His second! Congratulations!

I was 26 when I finally got my first buck. I hunted 10 years in California, and did see a buck vanishing into the forest in high gear... one time.... (California's success rate was 7% back then. :emoji_unamused: )
Once I became a resident in Wyoming, I hunted every year, and was successful every year. We literally lived on game meat.

Hope you both tag out, and bring home the bacon, too! :emoji_wink:

Congrats to your son! Been trying to get my son to come out hunting on my landlord's property, but he's 18 and busy chasing the other kind of whitetail:emoji_blush:

You shootin tame deer Chili? <sarcasm>

I see a guy feeding deer in the last picture...LOL!!
Those does and young"uns are George's pets, aka Cabin Deer.
And are not hunted, one guy shot one once, he never hunted here again.
No does to be shot within a quarter mile of the cabin.
No shooting of any sort at the cabin without damned good reason.

Not exactly tame, but close.
They'll run from anyone but George.

They have their uses, several plots relatively near the cabin, they make great live bait for the bucks during the Rut.

I've killed deer with a .308, 30-30 and a .35REM.

All are great rounds, but my absolute favorite of the 3 is the .35REM.

Not the best for any distance, but that is not an issue in the environment I hunt.

I shot a six point second day of season this year. Never even filled my doe tags, one deer was enough this year.

Nice hog! Nothing better than spending time with your kids.. and filling tags! Can't wait to see the recipes that come from this weekend hunt
