So pork babybacks were on the menu last Sunday, but Mother Nature had other plans, in the form of a crazy wind storm. At my place, I think we saw gusts of well over 30 mph, plus sleet, snow, and hail. In that order.
We had two 80' Poplars come down into our yard from the property behind us. Took out portions of both my back chain link fence, and my front wood fence. Fortunately the house and deck were spared, but I was in bed, and it sure put some adrenalin in the system when I heard them come down about 10pm.

Insurance adjuster sent an arborist over to look at the trees still remaining on the neighbor's property, to see if the rest need to come down. (So far, not a peep out of the neighbor. I'll let the insurance agencies duke it out.) Still waiting on a final tally.
But I told the wife we can have ribs or ham tomorrow for Easter. She opted for the ribs that we never got to.

Man that looks nasty! Thankfully it missed the house and didn't injure anyone. As for the ribs, I'm in, I love some good ribs!

Ouch!! Glad to hear no one was hurt and the house wasn't damaged. Maybe when they cut the tree to remove it from your property, you could get some or all of the wood split up for your grill along with the settlement? Enjoy those ribs. Ya'll earned them! Hope your Easter is a safe and happy one.🍻

Thanks! Poplar is a pretty soft wood from what I can see. Doubt it's much good for anything but campfires.

That's what our spring has looked like. Sooooo much rain and wind there are trees down everywhere. Glad the house was spared

Lived out there so know the drama.
Neighbor's 100% liable for your damage. Yes, let the insurance companies duke it out, but you need the debris removed so push the issue and threaten loss of of access.
Aspen is camp fire only. It is not a smoking wood

Glad there was not anymore substantial damages. Poplars are quick growing trees but very weak. We have branches break off of them all the time.

Adding a little insult to injury, in this photo you can see the lighter wood portion of the fence that I replaced last year, when a different neighbor hit the gas instead of the brake. I'm no carpenter, but I thought I did a pretty good job. Tree wiped out much of it, along with a post.

Paid $1,600 for a tree removal service to take the stuff away last week (insurance will reimburse us.) Unfortunately, they were too good.

A few weeks ago, my wife decided to cut down an ornamental cherry tree out front, because she didn't like the pollen, petals, and leaves falling on her car anymore. This was expressly against my wishes, and not only did she do it while I was at work, she also messed up my chainsaw doing it. :emoji_angry: I was not a happy camper.
But I resigned myself to having some cherry wood to smoke with once I got the saw fixed, and dragged the majority of the tree into the back yard. I had kind of forgotten about it, and then the storm hit and knocked down the other trees above. Removal guys came out, again while I was at work, and you guessed it, they took the cherry, too. So now I still have a busted chainsaw, and nothing to show for it. Can't get rid of the wife; we've been married almost 40 years, and now she claims she has tenure.
