My wife calls me in to see a smoker listed on craigslist that she found and says "maybe you can get it for your birthday". So when I look to see what it is, its a 22.5" Weber Smokey Mountain for $250.00, brand new and still in the box.

Now my 18.5" Smokey mountain will have someone to hang out with!!!

Welcome to the site.
Nice to see your WSM will be getting an older Brother

That is a good deal on that smoker.. at $400 for a brand new one. Still in the box or even just in great condition, I would nab it fast before the seller comes to their senses.

Who would sell a 22.5 WSM? That is what's bothering me!

I looked at one today and the door on the side is hokey. To buy a new one at $400 would make me think twice. The one I looked at was at ACE Hardware. For that much money, they could put a door that wouldn't leak worse than a Brinkman.

The door is the only complaint however, I spent about 5 minutes tweaking mine and it is working just fine now.

After using mine several times over the last couple of weeks, I would say it is worth the $400 considering you can pay this much or more for a small horizontal with side firebox with loads of heat problems.

Just my opinion.

I do agree that it would be nice if Weber would put some serious R&D into that door considering that would make the smoker almost perfect.

I am considering some kind of thin gasket around the perimeter of the door just to make sure I have zero leakage.. anyone tried this?

no issue with the door for me with 50+ smokes on the WSM under my belt, fits snug, never reallt think about it or use it. fits snug, no leaks, if I shut my vents down I can have the WSM cold and ready to cover in 30 minutes top, pretty air tight.

cold weather i put the door on upside down.

Easily the best smoker I have owned/used by a wide margin. Once you go WSM you wont go back.

increases the o2 flow a little, got that tip from the Virtual Weber Bullet site,
