I have a Traeger Texas model pellet grill. After cooking I usually wipe down the cooking surface, but still over time the cooking grid has become very grimy.
The grid is, I believe, porcelain coated steel.
The cooking grid started out as a 1 piece grid, approx. 19x32. I have cut the grid into 3 sections for easier handling and cleaning.
I am thinking of putting the grimy cooking grid, all 3 pieces, in our self-cleaning kitchen oven. What do you think? Would the porcelain coated steel take the heat OK?
Thanks for your ideas.

Your oven is porcelain coated. But when you cut the rack you cut the integrity of the porcelain. Give it a shot; nothing ventured nothing gained! You could also just place the rack in a black garbage bag and spray liberally for oven cleaner and let it soak in the sun.

I would not recommend the self cleaning oven.
Ours sez specifically to not put anything in it during the self cleaning mode.

Something a neighbor of ours use to do when camping, when everybody was drifting off to bed, he would put his cast iron skillet in the coals and bury it. Next day when he fished it out, it was as clean as brand new.
Of course it had to be re-seasoned. But there was nothing but clean cast iron.
I don't know if you could do that with your grates, but it might be better than burning down your kitchen.

Sarge's oven cleaning suggestion is good. I use Easy-Off to clean saw blades and router bits of wood resins. Spray it on, hose it off. If there is anything left, do it again.
I never used a bag.

I clean my grates with a weed burner.
A couple of quick passes & they are spotless & sanitized!
Just don't get the grates too hot or they will warp!
