I was thinking of starting up a charity cook every other weekend at an area homeless shelter.

A few pork shoulders, sauce, and buns for pulled pork. Nothing fancy.

I was wondering if anyone on this forum has done anything similar?

I would love some insights into how to get this started.

Thanks,

JC :emoji_cat:

Ive also thought about doing this. Esp with so many folks being out of work right now. might check with local church and see if they have have members of congregation that could use help.

JC in GB JC in GB I don't have any experience in large group cooking. I just want to say this is a very generous thing you are considering.

I found a homeless shelter in town that has volunteers cook on a schedule basis. This may be just what I am looking for.

Funny that there are already two volunteers doing smoked, pulled pork. I guess I wil have to come up with something else.

I am thinking of a hearty pulled pork pozole.

I have sent an inquiry to the project organizer.

You are very generous. Be sure to have your Ducks in a Row, Legally. In a Litigious world, No good Deed goes Unpunished!...JJ

Right you are. That is why I am looking around first. I want to help out but, as you pointed out, there are a lot of buttholes out there just looking for a court case.

Right you both are. And that's a huge part of what's wrong out there these days. It's a shame really. You want to do something extremely unselfish and nice to help out those less fortunate, and you have to worry that someone is lurking to profit from it. Very litigious indeed. Rant over, I'll step down from my soapbox. Stay safe.

I used to BBQ pork butts for a group of up to 50 people one night a month. It was super fun, I was BBQing for 3 ladies that did lingerie shows at a local watering hole. It was very rewarding if I don't say so myself.:emoji_joy:

That is a heck of a nice thing to do. I would like to do the same thing, but have no way to get my smoker to the woods where the homeless people are living. Our community puts together a couple of hundred meals every week & takes it over to them, but to have a smoker there & give them fresh BBQ would be awesome.
